Can I Use Wall Power?
This page explains how to power the OV20i system safely using standard wall outlets, and what adapters or supplies are compatible.
Yes, Wall Power Is Allowed
You can power the OV20i from a standard 120V (North America) or 220-240V (international) wall outlet. You just need a 24V DC power supply that converts AC wall power to 24V DC. Most Overview camera kits include one.
| Requirement | Spec |
|---|---|
| Voltage Range | 19–24 VDC |
| Power Input Port | M12 A-Coded 17-pin connector |
| Current Draw | 1 A max |
| Grounding | Required for I/O functionality |
Recommended Wall Power Adapter
Overview recommends the following accessory:
| Part Name | Details |
|---|---|
| 24V DIN-Rail Power Supply | Converts 110–240 VAC to 24V DC |
| M12 Power Cable | 17-pin A-coded with flying leads or terminals |
| Mounting | Can be DIN-mounted in control panel |
note

Setup Instructions
-
Connect M12 Power Cable
→ Connect pins 13 & 14 to +24 VDC
→ Connect pins 5 & 6 to GND
-
Use Industrial 24V Adapter
→ Rated for ≥36 W output
→ Must be regulated and isolated
-
Ground DIO GND if using triggers or outputs
→ Pin 7 (DIO GND) should be tied to system GND
Do Not Use
| Not Recommended | Why Not |
|---|---|
| USB-C Port | Not supported or used on the OV20i |
| POE Injectors | OV20i does not support Power over Ethernet |
| Unregulated 24V Sources | May cause brownout, instability, or damage |
Best Practices
- Use Overview-approved power supplies or industrial-grade adapters
- Ensure proper fuse protection (1-2A slow blow fuse suggested)
- Confirm power polarity before applying current
- Secure connections with locking M12 screw ring
