The OV20i uses S-mount (M12 x 0.5) lenses with the Sony IMX296 sensor (1/2.9" format, 1440×1080 pixels, 3.45μm pixel size). All FOV calculations are based on the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Basic FOV Formula

Horizontal FOV = 2 × arctan(sensor_width / (2 × focal_length)) × distance

Where:

  • Sensor width = 4.97 mm (horizontal)
  • Sensor height = 3.73 mm (vertical)
  • Distance = working distance from lens to object

Working Distance Guidelines

No hard maximum inspection distance

There is no absolute maximum inspection distance for Overview cameras. The effective working distance depends on your lens choice, the size of the feature you need to detect, and what percentage of the camera's field of view that feature occupies. As distance increases, each pixel covers a larger area, so smaller defects become harder to detect. The distances below are practical guidelines based on typical applications, not hard limits.
