AI-POWERED DOCS
What do you want to know?
Glossary
The words these docs and the camera use, in plain terms.
The inspection
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Recipe | One complete inspection: how the image is captured, what is checked, how the verdict is decided, and what the line is told. A camera holds many recipes but runs one at a time. See All Recipes. |
| Active recipe | The recipe the camera is currently running. Activating another deactivates it. |
| Tool | One check inside a recipe, such as AI Classification or Barcode Read. Tools run in order, top to bottom. See Inspection Tools. |
| Region | The area of the image a tool looks at. Also called an ROI, a region of interest. Smaller regions give the AI a cleaner signal. |
| Aligner | An Alignment tool. It finds the part in each frame so the regions of other tools follow it when it shifts or rotates. See Alignment. |
| Anchor, template region | The rigid features an aligner locks onto, such as holes, corners or edges. Spread them as far apart as possible. |
| Follows the aligner | A tool linked to an aligner. Its regions move with the part, and it is skipped if the aligner cannot find the part. |
| Class | One possible answer for AI Classification, such as ok or scratch. You mark each class Pass or Fail. |
| Training | Teaching an AI tool from labelled examples. It happens on the camera, in seconds, and nothing is uploaded. |
The verdict
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Verdict, judgment | The single pass or fail the recipe produces for each part. |
| Rule | One condition in Judgment, such as "all inspection tools pass". Every rule must hold for the recipe to pass. See Step 4: Judgment. |
| Gating | A tool gates the verdict when a rule covers it. A tool outside every rule still runs and records its result, but has no say in pass or fail. |
| Skipped, not applicable | A tool that did not run, usually because the aligner it follows missed the part. How a rule treats a skipped tool is set in its Advanced section. |
| Not Inspected | A capture where every inspection tool was skipped. The camera records it as a fail but keeps it out of the yield figure. |
| Yield | The share of inspected parts that passed. |
Running the camera
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Setup | The mode for building and changing recipes. Outputs still fire, so you can test wiring. |
| Production | The mode for running the line. The HMI goes live and recipes cannot be edited. Switching between the two is deliberate, so a running line cannot be changed by accident. |
| Trigger | What makes the camera take a picture: a manual press, a timer, the AI trigger, or an external signal. See Step 2: Triggering. |
| Image trigger buffer | How many triggers the camera will queue while it is still inspecting. 0 means one at a time. |
| Capture | One image and its results, as stored in the Library. |
| Pinned | A capture that is never deleted automatically. Everything unpinned is removed oldest first once storage is full. |
Talking to the line
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Fieldbus | The industrial network protocol used to talk to a PLC: EtherNet/IP or PROFINET. See Industrial Ethernet. |
| Process image | The fixed block of bytes the camera and PLC exchange continuously: 500 bytes from the camera, 496 bytes from the PLC. |
| EDS, GSDML | Files that describe the process image to your PLC software. EDS is for EtherNet/IP, GSDML for PROFINET. Always use the one that matches your firmware. |
| Slot | A fixed position in the process image that one tool reports in. Slots 1 to 8 carry a full result record, slots 9 to 64 a single pass bit. See Step 5: Outputs. |
| PLC recipe ID | The number a PLC uses to select a recipe, from 1 to 32767, unique on each camera. |
| Handshake | The sequence of bits the PLC and camera exchange to trigger, read a result, or switch recipe. See PLC handshakes. |
| Output line | A physical wire on the camera that switches on a result, such as a reject valve on DO0. |
| Hold, pulse | Whether an output line stays switched until the next result, or switches for a set time. |
| Remote Storage | Copies images, result metadata and recipe backups to your own FTP, SFTP or SMB server. See Remote Storage. |
| Destination | One server that Remote Storage sends to. A camera can have two. |
| Token | A placeholder such as {YYYY} or {recipe} in a Remote Storage folder or file name, filled in from each capture. |
| PoE | Power over Ethernet. OV Spark Pro can run from a single network cable through the Overview adapter. See Power over Ethernet. |
